Jurassic World Tops Box Office for Third Consecutive Weekend

Posted on June 28, 2015

Jurassic World is the #1 movie in theaters for the third consecutive weekend. Jurassic World added $54.2 million over the weekend to bring its total domestic gross to $500 million. It is the fastest film to reach the $500 million mark. The film has made nearly $1.1 billion worldwide.

Jurassic World finished just ahead of Inside Out. The Pixar film made $52 million during its second weekend in theaters to bring its total gross to $185 million. The animated film is another big hit for Pixar.

Inside Out was followed by Ted 2, which made $33 million. Ted 2 stars Mark Wahlberg and a talking teddy bear. It has a B+ CinemaScore. Ted 2 is making less than expected. It is not clear if it is making enough for there to be a Ted 3. The second film reportedly cost $35 million more to make and it is making significantly less than the original. The first Ted movie had a $54 million opening weekend in 2012.

The second wide release to open this weekend was Max. It opened in fourth and made $12 million in 2,855 theaters. The film follows the story of Max, a highly trained service dog that is traumatized following the death of his marine owner.

Max was followed by Spy, San Andreas, Dope and Insidious Chapter 3. You can view the weekend box office chart here.

Jurassic World continues to be a strong draw in theaters but its streak will likely end at three weekends. It will face strong competition from Terminator Genisys and Magic Mike XXL next weekend.
